“BODY ENGLISH” at Dabbert Gallery At one point or another we have all sat and watched as raindrops traced a circuitous path along a window pane. There is a special emotional quality to this experience that is echoed in the new paintings of artist Daniel Bilodeau. Daniel Bilodeau’s highly In this series of contemporary realistic works, the painted figures themselves take up the paint and work their way through an atmosphere of liquid color. Sometimes much larger than life sized, Bilodeau‘s subjects are pictured in a moment of creation. In a play on the differences between abstract expressionism and classical realism, paint is splattered in these pictures, and running along the peaks and valleys of highly finished and detailed representations of the human form. “I freeze a moment Daniel Bilodeau’s paintings have been exhibited in solo and group shows in galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad, including the Franklin Mint Museum in Media, Pennsylvania; the Peninsula Museum of Art in Belmont, California and the Guardian Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. In addition, his work is in public and private collections, including those of the Citadel Museum in Canadian, Texas and the University of Tampa in Florida. “BloodBrother,” by Matt Lopez, Shawn Pettersen and Nathan Skiles Due to the size of our exhibition space, mack b projects will be having two exhibitions simultaneously. These exhibitions will be distinguished by separate gallery spaces. The opening reception for both of these exhibitions will occur on two separate evenings. Sarasota, Fla.- Mack b projects presents two exhibitions, March 8 – April 4. “BloodBrother,” will open Saturday, March 15, 6-9pm, with a New Music New College performance beginning the same night, at 8pm. Gallery 1+2 (Opening 3/15/08): In the exhibition “BloodBrother,” Matt Lopez, Shawn Pettersen and Nathan Skiles present a group of paintings, sculptures and installations in which their curatorship is determined by the union of personal histories rather than a formal or conceptual framework. Lopez, Pettersen and Skiles offer the following, “‘BloodBrother,’ as gleaned from the Holiest of Holy texts, Wikipedia. Blood Brother referring to two or more men not related by birth, who swear loyalty to one another in a ceremony, known as a Blood Oath, where the blood of each man is mingled together. Historically as an extension of fraternization, the act of the Blood Oath forms a relationship that through improper loyalty transcends ones ethics, social expectations and professionalism in order to bind one another together as equals. Coupling this historic precedent with the Blood Oath’s popular conception as a brash display of boyish machismo the pact of the Blood Brothers endures as a lasting image of an overly romanticized act of Platonic devotion.” Performance (3/15/08 @ 8pm): In “The Great Learning, Paragraph 7,” New College students perform the music of Cornelius Cardew under the direction of NMNC director Stephen Miles. This vocal program offers an aural and locomotive kaleidoscope of sound based on a canonical work of Confusianism. “Recent Paintings, Installations and Glicee Prints,” by Richard Heipp Due to the size of our exhibition space, mack b projects will be having two exhibitions simultaneously. These exhibitions will be distinguished by separate gallery spaces. The opening reception for both of these exhibitions will occur on two separate evenings. Sarasota, Fla.- Mack b projects presents two exhibitions, March 8 - April 4, with two separate opening receptions. Richard Heipp’s “Recent Paintings, Installations and Glicee Prints,” opening reception is Saturday, March 8, 6-9 PM. There will also be a closing reception for the exhibition “Brandon Whitcomb: A Retrospective After Life,” presented by Kevin Dean and mack b projects. Gallery 3 (Opening 3/08/08): In the exhibition “Recent Paintings, Installations and Glicee Prints,” Richard Heipp, one of “Florida’s best known artists,” will present work concerned with the intersection of technology and vision within artistic production. Heipp has created the term “photocentric” to describe his paintings in which he goes great lengths to mimic what appears to be precise mechanically produced images. Interested in the way we “see” and the manner in which contemporary culture consumes images, Heipp states,” I believe the 21st century has brought about an important difference between ‘looking’ (the superficial way we digest most images) and ’seeing’ (a profound looking which includes an aspect of the contextual understanding).” Richard Heipp’s incredible collection of technical skills and craftsmanship encourages us to not only think and remember what we see but reconsider the means and motives behind what we look at. mackbgallery. com/exhib_future. html image: Richard Heipp Caui Lofgren & Kevin Dean — Mack b ProjectsPosted by

Lofgren states, “In art and relationships, as with in sports, strategy and rules sometimes give way to friendly challenges, creative interpretations, and innovations born out of disadvantage.” A former skateboarder currently teaching art at a sports academy, Lofgren is interested in where these two worlds collide and when rules give way to play.

“Red, Right, Return,” by Tom Stephens This exhibition, at mack b projects, will inaugurate an expansion of additional gallery space. Gallery 3 (project room) will expand the exhibition space by another 3500 sq. ft. The “Smaller” exhibition is an outside project in collaboration with White Dog Design, located in the historic Mira Mar building, (above Caragiulos restaurant) at 73 South Palm Avenue, Suite 218, Sarasota, FL. Sarasota, Fla.- Mack b projects presents “Red, Right, Return,” December 1-31, with an opening reception Saturday, December 1, 6:00-9:00pm. Mack b projects and White Dog Design presents “Smaller,” December 7-31, with an opening reception Friday, December 7, 6-9pm. Gallery 3: In the exhibition “Red, Right, Return,” Tom Stephens will present new paintings and sculptures. Stephens develops his work through extensive periods of observation on the local bay and gulf waters. On these waters, the relationships between the sky and the water, the man-made and the natural are intensified by the seemingly endless landscape rolling over the horizon-line. In this space, Stephens finds all the elements responsible for the degradation of this environment and reapplies them as symbols and signs of visual harmony. Tom Stephens’ paintings and new sculptures further prepare us for the consequences of over-looking our co-survival with the world around us.
